Local residents who regularly travel along Wellman Road have probably noticed that cars are no longer lining up along the shoulder of the road near Quest Collegiate Academy – Shenandoah. This is because new leadership at the school recognized the safety hazard and quickly made several changes to improve the drop-off and pick-up process.
Tamera Myers, promoted to Quest Campus Director in June 2022, led the effort to streamline procedures. “Over the summer I met with our leadership team to come up with a new plan. We knew we wanted to move forward with staggered dismissal. We took safety into consideration and decided to have a single entry point for all students, and a single exit location. Students would not have to cross traffic when they exited.”
Myers said a few other changes were incorporated into the new plan and so far, it’s been working very smoothly and there is no confusion for parents. “They’re quite happy with the changes,” she said.
Quest is a tuition-free public charter school of about 380 students in grades K though 8 which opened at this location in June 2020. Although some students live in Shenandoah, the majority come from widely varying areas outside the city, so bus service is not available.
