International Fishing Champion Has Ties to Shenandoah

Shelley Ware recently won the top female angler award in the Cayman Islands International Fishing Tournament with a 60 pound yellowfin tuna. Her father Bob Ware, who lives in Shenandoah said, “Shelley and I fished offshore in the Gulf when she was growing up, then she took it to another level when she moved to the Caribbean. I’m very proud of her!”

Ware’s team also won the second heaviest fish on day three of the four day tournament which began April 27. Although catches are sold to local restaurants, Shelley said, “I did manage to save one that we caught and brought some fresh tuna back with me.” She resides in Montgomery County, but spent several years working in the Cayman Islands where she enjoyed fishing as a hobby.
