The Shenandoah Police department recently concluded its third educational program for those who live or work in the city. This year nine students graduated from the class which met once a week over a two month period.
Instructor Lt. Joel Gordon said, “The overall feedback I got from participants was all very positive. We had many good questions, and I think everyone learned a lot. I am a big believer in the program as most of what the general public knows about law enforcement comes from television and the movies, which in most cases is inaccurate. Even in the most accurate of productions one has to understand that the laws and procedures that are being discussed are typically laws from California or New York, which is the setting of most of the shows.”
Shenandoah resident Chris West attended the academy both this year and last. He said it’s a “great way to meet and develop relationships with members of the police department, and to learn about the interaction that goes on between multiple law enforcement agencies such as the sheriff’s department, constables, Texas Rangers and others.”
